King of Fighters will be released on both Xbox and Playstation generations (cross-gen) along with PC in 2022, confirmed by series developer SNK.

Fans of SNK's long-running combat series have been eagerly awaiting word on when and where they would be able to play King of Fighters 15. The studio offered its first explanation in 2021 when it revealed that the game was due to Japanese manufacturing delays in the first quarter of 2022 it would be released. Now fans are well aware of the platforms in the game since the latest SNK game will be released cross-gen consoles. or on current and next-generation platforms.

Since the release of King of Fighters 14 on PS4 and PC in 2016, this is the series' first mainline release. It will keep the competitive, 2D-style gameplay that has been associated with the series since the first game was launched in 1994. The game will also include a cast of well-known fighters, including series staples such as Terry Bogard and Joe Higashi, who form numerous teams competing in the game's title tournament. Vanessa, a series regular and Team Secret Agent member, is the latest character to be confirmed back in the 2022 season.

In a tweet on the SNK Global account, SNK announced that King of Fighters 15 would be a cross-generational game. When it launches in early 2022, the game will be available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S owners to enjoy. SNK isn't skimping on PC, either, as the game will be accessible on the Epic Games Store, Steam, and Windows 10 after launch.

The game's cross-gen status will most certainly be viewed as a pleasant relief for PS4 and Xbox One players who have been unable to buy an Xbox Series X or PS5. Then the situation exists if SNK offers cross-gen play for fans who play in the same console family. Cross-gen games became highly common in various big titles, like Fellow Fighter Mortal Kombat 11 and the next Battlefield 6, and further broke down generational barriers than in prior generations.

It would also be beneficial for SNK to use all the platforms that King of Fighters can use to release while the older systems will be relevant. This is frequent in the early years of a new console generation because not every console owner would have updated straight away. However, the coronavirus pandemic has significantly hampered availability of the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 releases. Both next-generation consoles have sold extremely well since their release, but demand has been so strong that little to no actual stock has been available in outlets.
