Frustrated Animal Crossing Villager scares away a valuable bug

Frustrated Animal Crossing Villager scares away a valuable bug.
Animal Crossing Villager Audie Peepy

Summer bugs are back in full force this year, but not for one ACNH gamer who sees their chance for a goliath beetle squandered by villager Audie.

A player trying to catch a valuable seasonal bug in Animal Crossing: New Horizons uploaded unlucky footage in which one of their villagers chases the insect away, thwarting its capture. The cozy sandbox game has no shortage of intriguing interactions given by Animal Crossing's inquisitive villager AI, and while annoyance from villagers ruining player's creature catches isn't uncommon, it doesn't make the accidents any less unappealing.

New Horizons is already in its second year after its first release. During that time, players meticulously recorded the game's problems in online wikis and personal Critterpedias. The goliath beetle is a rare bug that only emerges on trees the nights throughout the summer. It, like other beetles, must be caught quietly, since any sudden movement would scare the insect and force it to flee. At Nook's Cranny, Goliath bugs fetch a hefty 8,000 bells. That bargain is too excellent to pass up for gamers who are saving up for island improvements.

In a video uploaded to Reddit, IDigress79 was only feet from capturing the elusive goliath insect. However, just as they are about to release their net, villager Audie rushes towards the tree where the beetle is hiding, and the beetle takes to the air and vanishes. However, following the interaction, IDigress79's dissatisfaction is obvious. They still had their net ready to catch with, and at the conclusion of the movie, they took out their frustration on Audie by hitting the wolf villager in the head with it. The video stops then, although one might envision an epilogue in which ButIDigress79 and their villager exchange severe words.

Audie was reportedly named after Audrey Buchanan, an elderly Animal Crossing player who clocked 3,500 hours of playing in New Leaf on the 3DS, according to New Horizons fans. After Buchanan's achievement was published, Audie was introduced in New Horizons, and the villager has a cheerful attitude. Those considerations may account for the villager's passion for intriguing rarities and her haste to ButIDigress79's potential reward. Unfortunately, this does not make the disappointment of losing a rare creature any less bitter.

Due to the possibility of clip and photo sharing on the Nintendo Switch, New Horizons users have generated a wide range of online material. Its community is a hive of innovation, with limitless possibilities; one user even staged a virtual rock performance in Animal Crossing lately. Despite previous and current criticisms of a lack of available material, the base game continues to provide unique experiences worthy of sharing with others, even when those experiences are ones of loss and disappointment.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is now available on the Nintendo Switch.
