PlayStation is releasing little portions of gameplay trailers for Gran Turismo 7, dubbed "The Real Driving Simulator," in the lead-up to the game's release. A fan-favorite course is returning in Gran Turismo 7: Deep Forest Raceway, which was hidden amid some seemingly benign visual changes.

Deep Forest Raceway will make a comeback in Gran Turismo 7 after a hiatus. Polyphony Digital's developers, on the other hand, opted to be a touch sneaky with their announcement. "The Starting Line," a behind-the-scenes movie released in October, contained gameplay, stills, and one of the developers' interpretations of automotive culture. In transitional periods throughout the video, some colored lines flash through the screen swiftly. These lines resemble high-speed headlights and brake lights in appearance, but they have a distinct shape and significant direction shifts. The lines might be taken as a design choice rather than a smart Easter egg, given that Gran Turismo 7's promotional hashtag is #findyourline.

Fans in the comments section of the October behind-the-scenes clip were more interested in the combination of new concept hypercars and old touring cars from across automotive and Gran Turismo history, rather than the shapes the lines were made. It wasn't until December that the Gran Turismo Twitter account uploaded an image combining all of the frames where the lines appear, revealing that Deep Forest Raceway will be returning in Gran Turismo 7.

A new gameplay video featuring a lap around the course updated for Gran Turismo 7 went live on the PlayStation Youtube channel not long after the tweet went up. The track has high-speed straights, elevation changes, and corners that require a great level of expertise to master, particularly the hairpin that returns to the start/finish line. Each of the other cars in the field has its own unique engine sound, which is brilliantly duplicated in the game as the car in the video passes them, most notably while passing the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. In the video's comment area, the realistic lighting, true-to-life camera tremors, and tire sounds appear to be the most popular.

The previous entry, Gran Turismo Sport, omitted Deep Forest Raceway in favor of more realistic, FIA sanctioned tracks and the esports aspect of racing simulations. As well-received as that game was, there was some concern that the series was drifting away from its "roots" as racing esports grew in popularity. Gran Turismo 7 will most probably put such fears to rest by reverting to the series' signature gameplay styles.

Gran Turismo 7 will be released for PS4 and PS5 on March 4, 2022.
