PlatinumGames announced Sol Cresta will be released next month

Sol Cresta, PlatinumGames' upcoming arcade-inspired title, will be released in February.

The game's release date is already set for February. The game will be released on February 22 for £39.99 / $39.99, according to PlatinumGames' "Release Date Forum" live stream.

Sol Cresta is the follow-up to the 1980 arcade game Moon Cresta and its 1985 sequel Terra Cresta.

It was first 'announced' on April Fool's Day 2020, prompting many to believe it was a joke rather than a legitimate game. PlatinumGames then acknowledged a year later that the game was, in fact, a real product and the first in a planned series.

Platinum stated in April that "this game will also be the first release in PlatinumGames' new brand, the Neo-Classic Arcade series." "Stay tuned for other games in the series s, in which the basic joy and spirit of classic games will be enhanced with modern technology and talent."

Kamiya told VGC in a September PlatinumGames interview that Sol Cresta was simply the first game in the studio's intended Neo-Classic Arcade range.

"The concept behind it is not to look at a certain IP or game, but to take the vibe of those older games from the 8-bit and 16-bit eras and bring back the days where you really had to find the joy and didn't have all the bells and whistles that we have these days," he stated.

"We now have the technology to expand on some of those concepts or maybe realize certain pillars that weren't conceivable back then, but the gameplay and basic mechanics continue."

"You start with the classic game and then add 'neo' aspects." We might incorporate fresh ideas from side-scrolling shooters, beat-em-ups, and other older genres.
