Full-screen mode for God of War is unlikely, according to the developer. Many in the God of War community had hoped for a real fullscreen update, especially for PC, however, it does not seem that this will happen.

When God of War received a reboot in 2018, it seemed almost unavoidable that it would be positively received by PC gamers when it was released this year. In fact, it was probably the best play of the game. The current edition in the series has breathed fresh life into Kratos and his surrounding exploits, with the franchise being one of the best third-person action adventures of all time. With the PC port continuing doing well on Steam, fans have been requesting one specific option, but it doesn't appear that this will happen.

In a recent post on the Steam community, one of the God of War developers, who goes by the handle Matt_sms, stated that, despite the community's requests, the studio will not be adding a real fullscreen option to the game. Players can already use "borderless fullscreen," but Santa Monica Studio has "no plans" to add "Exclusive Fullscreen," according to the post, in an effort to be more upfront with fans.

The developer has a number of reasons for not including it, the majority of which are related to visual acuity and optimization. Matt_sms claims that the present borderless fullscreen mode is suitable for features such as VSync and G-Sync, which prevent screen tearing during gameplay, as well as upscaling technologies such as Nvidia's Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) and AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR). Furthermore, the team will be trying to improve the present fullscreen mode in the game, according to the post.

Although some may be disappointed, the majority of the comments below the post appeared to understand, and it's capable of damaging the game's already immense popularity, particularly the PC port. God of War has done extraordinarily well on Steam, having an "Overwhelmingly Positive" rating at the time of writing. In general, most players are unlikely to be turned off by the news that exclusive fullscreen will not be enabled.

In terms of the series' future, many fans are looking forward to God of War: Ragnarok, which is set to release later this year. Currently, it's just set to be released on PS4 and PS5, but considering the game's great popularity on PC, there's every reason to expect that Steam will get its own version as well.

The PC and PS4 versions of God of War are both available.
