Pokémon Legends: Arceus Has Been Defeated In Just 5 Hours.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus was completed in about five hours, breaking the game's speedrunning record not long after its release.

In just over five hours, a speedrunner completed Pokémon Legends: Arceus, breaking the game's previous record. The semi-open world offshoot was only launched a week ago, but it has already established itself as a critical and economic success. Legends are extremely popular, even when compared to earlier titles in the series, as proven by the amount of retail sales records broken by Pokémon Legends: Arceus upon its release.

As one of Nintendo's most popular IPs, the Pokémon franchise has long piqued the interest of the speedrunning community. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have launched just a few months ago, and speedrunners rushed to get their hands on both versions. New world records are constantly being established for such remakes, with Buster poke only a few days ago setting another Any percent world record of 14 minutes and 31 seconds. That enthusiasm has naturally spilled over to Pokémon Legends, and the game's more open-ended nature has already resulted in some incredible speed runs.

eddaket, a streamer, and speedrunner, just set a new record for Pokémon Legends: Arceus, clocking it at 5 hours, 8 minutes, and 39 seconds. His previous best time was 6 hours, 29 minutes, and 11 seconds, which had since been exceeded. These runs are in the Any percent category, which entails locating and cleverly exploiting flaws in order to potentially skip chunks of the game. According to most players and sources, a standard playing of Pokémon Legends: Arceus took nearly 25-30 hours.

The original video can be found on YouTube here.

This record, however, will most likely not remain long, as eddaket himself admits. Despite the fact that he said this was a good run in which everything he did basically worked out, eddaket also believes that given the strategy he used, a time under five hours is probably attainable. He obviously wants to be the first to do so, but there are "a few changes" that need to be made before.

There have already been a slew of Pokémon Legends: Arceus speedruns, with record times plummeting by the day. The most popular category right now is Any percent, so eddaket will face stiff competition as the community works out the game's many bugs and adopts their suggestions. However, as with other modern games, Pokémon Legends: Arceus will almost certainly receive patches to address some of the flaws that affect the ordinary player, maybe including one that grants Snorlax in Pokémon Legends: Arceus tremendous speed. One can only speculate on how this may affect speedruns, but learning and adapting is part of the joy of this pastime. Even from the start, it appears like Pokémon Legends: Arceus will provide years of enjoyment to the speedrunning community.
