Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet have been announced for release in late 2022

The newest games in the Pokemon franchise, Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet have been revealed. The games will be available for Nintendo Switch in late 2022, as announced at Pokémon Presents.

When it was announced that a new Pokemon Presents will be released for Pokemon Day, fans were ecstatic. Two things were on fans' minds: a new Pokemon Legends: Arceus DLC announcement and a Pokemon Generation 9 announcement. And it appears like the Pokemon Presents succeeded on both counts.

The Pokemon Sword and Shield may not look to be really old, but they were actually launched in 2019. This means it will be three years after they were released this November, and most Pokemon generations span three years. As a result, the announcement of the new Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is timely.

Near the end of the new Pokemon Presents clip, this new game and region were revealed. It appears in the last two minutes of the video below.

There isn't much information available on the region, though it appears to include some coastal parts and a major city with some fascinating architecture. There were no new Pokemon exhibited apart from the starters, but as these are the official new Pokemon gen 9 entry, fans may expect additional Pokemon to be revealed in the coming weeks and months.

The new starters have also been revealed, thanks to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. A green cat with a leaf on its face and a leaf-shaped tail is the Grass's beginning. The Water beginning is a white duck with a blue hat, and it appears that the hat will play a role in its development. Finally, there's the Firestarter, who resembles a crocodile with an apple fused together. This could spell the end of the Pokemon fire starter zodiac pattern, but only time will tell. This was the only thing seen, however fans may expect their second forms to be unveiled before the show's premiere.

Although legendaries, gimmicks, and other details are yet unknown, one thing to note about Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is that they appear to be incredibly open. It's too early to call them an open-world Pokemon game, but they appear to be inspired by Pokemon Legends: Arceus' open-world style. It'll be fascinating to see how fans react to this, given it was the topic of some graphic controversy.

Naturally, there are two major questions at the moment: when will fans learn more, and when will the film be released? While the former is a toss of the dice, the presentation does confirm Scarlet and Violet's release date as late 2022. This demonstrates that, despite everything else that is coming out in 2022, Pokemon enthusiasts will be well fed.
