A new Doom 2 level has been released to raise funds for Ukraine. Twenty-seven years after the debut of Doom 2, former id designer and founder John Romero announces the release of a new level in support of Ukraine.

Many game creators have decided to donate earnings from their game sales to the Ukrainian Red Cross to aid the country's people after the Russian invasion of Kyev. The original Doom 2 co-creator John Romero is the latest to gather donations for emergency relief to people affected by the violence, providing shelter, food, and water to those in need.

Several game companies, including Bungie, CD Projekt Red, and Ukrainian-based STALKER producer GSC Game World, have released statements on the present situation impacting people of the country's cities and capital, Kyev, throughout the previous week. John Romero, a former id co-creator who now runs Romero Games, has announced a minor Doom 2 expansion.

Doom 2 co-creator John Romero said on Twitter that he will be releasing a new level titled "One Humanity" in honor of the people of Ukraine. Since the game's release in 1994, this is the most recent instance of Romero's involvement in level development. Fans of the series will be able to access the level for a gift of €5, with all earnings going to the Red Cross and the UN Central Emergency Fund. The post also contains a screenshot of the level, which shows the classic tall goat-legged Cyberdemon that fans are all too familiar with hearing before being forced to defeat.

The level is available as a.WAD file with external mod data and a readme text file from Romero's website. It can only be played on an original copy of Doom 2, and a recent source port must be installed in order to access the level. Retro gamers and old-school lovers can rejoice with the inclusion of a new level to a game that was instrumental in paving the way for mods. The game has recently gained popularity for speedrunning, with a variety of categories relating to the game's many difficulty levels. Doom 2's fan-made mods, on the other hand, are what keep the game alive.

Since its debut, Doom 2 has received plenty of new content, the most notable of which is an official expansion of 20 levels that began as fan mods before being picked up by developer id. It also included new monsters and the super shotgun, which had a larger spread and tripled the damage of the regular shotgun. It was published a year after the extremely popular Doom.

Doom 2 was first released in 1994 for MS-DOS computers, and it has since been copied to a number of platforms. Only PC users will be able to access the next level.
