BBC Sports: Manchester United footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodriguez have announced the death of their baby boy, describing it as the "greatest pain that any parent can feel."
The 37-year-old Portugal international and his 28-year-old partner, Rodriguez, were expecting twins.
Their baby girl survived, and their parents said her birth "gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness."
"You are our angel, baby boy. We will always be proud of you "They composed their words.
"It is with the deepest sadness that we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away," they said in a statement on social media.
"We are all devastated by this loss, and we respectfully request privacy during this difficult time."
The couple announced their pregnancy in October.
"Your pain is our pain," United tweeted. At this time, I'm sending you and your family my love and strength."
"Thoughts are with you and Georgina brother, I'm so sorry," teammate Marcus Rashford tweeted.
Real Madrid, Ronaldo's former club, said the club, its president, and board of directors is "deeply saddened," adding, "Real shares in the family's pain and wishes to send them all of our warmth."
Manchester City, Leeds United, and the Premier League have all tweeted their deepest sympathies.

Ronaldo has a son Cristiano Jr., born in 2010, and twins Eva and Mateo, born in 2017. He also has a daughter with Rodriguez, Alana Martina, who was born in 2017.
