Amy Hennig and Skydance New Media have announced a new Star Wars game
A New Star Wars game is coming

The recently announced Star Wars project by Amy Hennig's Skydance New Media will be added to the list of upcoming Star Wars titles. There has been no shortage of Star Wars game project announcements since the end of EA's Star Wars exclusive pact and the formation of LucasFilm Games last year. The most recent addition to this list is Amy Hennig's interactive studio's new Star Wars game.

Amy Hennig's Skydance New Media announced a collaboration with Lucasfilm Games to create a new Star Wars video game. According to a press release issued today, this project will be a "richly cinematic action-adventure game with an original story set in the legendary Star Wars galaxy."

"I've often described how seeing Star Wars as a 12-year-old essentially rewired my brain, forever shaping my creative life and future," said Hennig, President of Skydance New Media. "I'm thrilled to be working with Lucasfilm Games again to tell interactive stories in this wonderful galaxy."

Hennig, best known for her work on PlayStation's Uncharted series, was previously set to direct an EA Star Wars game developed by Visceral Games. After Visceral was dissolved, that title was eventually canceled. Hennig would eventually leave EA to start Skydance New Media.

Skydance New Media will collaborate with LucasFilm Games to bring the upcoming Star Wars game to life, according to the announcement. The project is described as a "richly cinematic action-adventure game with an original story." The announcement contains no specific details about the title, release date, actual narrative, or anything else. The studio has also grown since Skydance New Media's inception in 2019 to include "a team of developers and artists with decades of AAA experience in action and adventure gaming," according to the announcement.

However, this is not Hennig's first time working on a Star Wars game. Hennig and Visceral Games collaborated on a single-player Star Wars game called "Ragtag" in 2016. However, EA would later cancel the Star Wars game, citing the project as too linear and lacking in potential monetization mechanisms, according to Hennig. It's unclear whether the newly announced Star Wars title will draw inspiration or make any reference to the canceled project.

According to Polygon, Hennig's Star Wars game is the fifth in development with Lucasfilm Games. This includes Quantic Dreams' Star Wars: Eclipse, Ubisoft's new open-world Star Wars game, and Respawn Entertainment's Jedi: Fallen Order 2 as well as two other Star Wars titles.

This is one of several ambitious Star Wars games currently in development by various development studios. Along with Hennig's project, there will be Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2, Star Wars Eclipse, a remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and Massive Entertainment's open-world Star Wars game. Respawn is also releasing a new Star Wars FPS, as well as Zynga's Star Wars: Hunters, a free-to-play team-based multiplayer game. Skydance New Media's Star Wars game joins an already exciting lineup of gaming projects. Furthermore, the studio's upcoming Marvel project indicates that it is aiming for a bright future in the industry.

The Star Wars game by Skydance New Media is currently under development.
