In his speech to the Indian-American community in San Francisco, Singh also issued a subtle message to the US, saying that New Delhi does not believe in "zero-sum diplomacy" and that one country's relationship with another cannot be at the price of the other.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh sent a stern message to China, saying that if India is injured, India will not spare anyone, adding that India has evolved as a powerful country under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is on track to become one of the world's top three economies.
In his speech to the Indian-American community in San Francisco, Singh also issued a subtle message to the US, saying that New Delhi does not believe in "zero-sum diplomacy" and that one country's relationship with another cannot be at the price of the other.
The military minister was in Washington, DC for the India-US 2+2 ministerial. He then flew to Hawaii for discussions at IndoPACOM headquarters before heading to San Francisco.
The Defence Minister spoke at a banquet held by the Indian Consulate in San Francisco in honor of the valor displayed by Indian soldiers on the border with China.
"I am unable to discuss what they (Indian military) did or the decisions we (the administration) made openly. But I can assure you that a message has been sent (to China) that if India is attacked, no one would be spared. He said, "Bharat ko agar koi chherega to Bharat chhorega nahi."
Following a serious conflict in the Pangong lake areas, a border standoff between Indian and Chinese soldiers erupted in Ladakh on May 5, 2020. After the battles in the Galwan Valley on June 15, 2020, the conflict escalated. The skirmishes resulted in the deaths of up to 20 Indian soldiers and an unspecified number of Chinese troops.
To date, India and China have undertaken 15 rounds of military negotiations to resolve the situation in eastern Ladakh. Last year, the two sides concluded the disengagement process on the north and south banks of the Pangong Lake, as well as in the Gogra area, as a consequence of the talks.
Without directly addressing American pressure on Russia as a result of the Ukraine conflict, Singh stated that India does not believe in "zero-sum" diplomacy.
He explained that just because India has a good relationship with one country does not indicate it will have a bad relationship with another. "India has never used this type of diplomacy before. This is something that India will never do (kind of diplomacy). In international relations, we don't believe in a zero-sum game," he remarked.
He stated that India believes in a bilateral relationship that is a "win-win" for both countries.
His speech came amid concerns in Washington over India's stance on the Ukraine conflict and its choice to buy Russian oil at a discount.
"India's image has shifted." India's reputation has improved. "No power on the planet can stop India from becoming one of the world's top three economies in the next few years," Singh added.
Singh stated in his speech to the Indian community that in the past, any country that wanted to develop and thrive thought about developing a thriving economic relationship with India.
"By the time we celebrate our 100th independence day in 2047, we should try to have a similar ecosystem in India," he added.
The defense minister claimed that during his last visit to the United States in 2013, he addressed a gathering of Indian Americans at a banquet in New Jersey "India's success story is not over; it is waiting for the BJP to come to power." People were dissatisfied with the performance of the then-Congress government at the time." He said that the Modi government had "turned around" the country in eight years and that India's image has improved.
"The world has now realized that India is no longer a weak country." It is a globally powerful country. India has the ability to dominate the globe today. "The world has now recognized India's potential," he added.
Nothing else in such a short time could be considered a "great achievement" for a country like India, he said.
"Several Indian prime ministers have gone on to become the country's leader after holding this position. But, like India's first prime minister, Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and Narendra Modi were leaders of the country before becoming prime ministers," he said.
"Today, we have a new and confident Bharat," he said, adding that India is on its way to being self-sufficient and that the Modi government is taking several key steps in that direction, particularly in the defense sector.
He noted that India has taken a number of important moves toward indigenization of its defense sector, and he quickly summarized some of the government's initiatives.
The defense minister added that India's IT sector has a lot of faith and confidence in it, that Indian talents are playing a key role in the world's IT sector, and that the Modi government has made efforts toward enormous digitization.
He claimed that India is on its way to becoming an economic power and that the government is working not only for the welfare and prosperity of its citizens but also for people in other areas of the world.
"India's economy is now among the world's fastest expanding. The pandemic did cause a setback in our economy. But now we're recovering quickly," he stated.
