Overwatch 2's second beta begins today at 11 a.m. PT for PC and console players. The beta will be available until July 18, giving players three weeks to test Junker Queen and the new map. The developers have stated their beta goals, which include testing server capacity and hero balance.

Junker Queen, a new tank hero who was first teased in-game in 2017, joins the beta. Fans have been clamoring for the opportunity to play her ever since, and we're finally getting it five years later. Paraiso, a new hybrid map, is also included in the new beta. This time, players will be able to play a game mode that is similar to traditional competitive games, in which teams will attack and defend on payload maps, while still allowing backfills for players who leave matches.

Overwatch 2 is the follow-up to Blizzard's class-based shooter, in which two teams of five players compete for objectives. Overwatch developers announced in June that the game would be free to play and would be available in early access on October 4. The first beta introduced a frantic pace to the game, a welcome change from the slower, more grinding pacing that has plagued Overwatch in recent years. The free-to-play PvP component will align the game with other competitive shooters such as Valorant and Apex Legends.

PS5 and PS4 Overwatch 2 beta issues and fixes

We have a few fixes for PS5 and PS4 players who are having issues with the Overwatch 2 beta, which launched today. Issues with server connections and a lack of the PvP beta tracker, which is required to access the beta in the first place, are among the issues. Others who purchased the Watchpoint pack are unable to access their beta access.

Overwatch 2 beta server issues are to be expected for such a popular game, but this is ineffective for players who have "failed to connect to game server." This is primarily affecting PS5 players and is caused by an excessive number of players attempting to log into the beta. If you want to get into the beta as soon as possible, you can download the PS4 beta instead. This is available in the PlayStation Store and can be added to your library before being downloaded. Because the game supports cross-progression, if you decide to return to the PS5 beta at a later time, your progress will be saved.

The final point is more complicated. Some players are unable to access the PS5 or PS4 betas because they are told they require an Overwatch 2 PvP beta tracker. Unfortunately, Blizzard is the only one who can fix this. Both Blizzard Support and PlayStation Support are aware of the problem, but no timetable for a resolution has been provided.

How to download the Overwatch 2 beta?

Console players should receive a code to access the beta. PC players will be able to access the beta via the Battle.net launcher. Here's how it worked in the first beta:

Junker Queen skills

The new beta finally allows fans to play as Junker Queen, a hero we've all been waiting for since she was first teased on the Junkertown map. From the Overwatch Twitter account, here's what we know about Junker Queen's abilities:

New Hybrid Map: Paraiso

Paraiso, a new hybrid map that explores Lucio's home, including the DJ's Clube Sinestesia, is also included in the beta. Players will begin the map by attacking or defending a control point, and if the attackers succeed, they will spend the rest of the map attacking or defending a payload.

How to Access the Overwatch 2 Beta

Although anyone can sign up for Overwatch 2's second beta, it is not an open beta. According to the beta FAQ page, Overwatch developers have stated that they will gradually add people as they ramp up server capacity, and the first big wave of beta access will take place on July 5. Even if you participated in the previous beta, you must sign up again.

Here's how to sign up Overwatch 2 beta:

  1. Go to the Overwatch 2 beta site.
  2. In the top right corner, log in to your Blizzard Account.
  3. At the bottom of the Overwatch 2 beta page, choose your platform (and region for PlayStation players).
  4. Then hit Request Beta Access.

Players can also purchase the Watchpoint Pack ($40) for guaranteed access. Along with beta access on the first day, you'll also receive two legendary character skins, a unique player icon, and enough digital currency to purchase the first two battle passes.
