Sonic Frontiers open world is shown in a 7-minute gameplay video

The first gameplay trailer for Sonic Frontiers has been released.

Following up on a gameplay teaser trailer released earlier this week, the new video below shows the game in action for about seven minutes.

As players battle monsters and explore the Starfall Islands, which include forests, waterfalls, deserts, and more, Sonic Frontiers has an open-world level design.

Sonic is left on one of these islands at the start of the game, according to the new IGN video, which shows him running up walls, grinding rails, and solving puzzles.

Sonic Frontiers will be released in the holiday season of 2022 on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Switch, and PC, with Sega aiming for high review scores.

Takashi Iizuka, the head of Sonic Team, has stated that he wants Frontiers to have the same enduring influence as Sonic Adventure.

The franchise's creative officer stated in a Sonic Stadium interview published in June 2021 that he anticipated the upcoming game will serve as the foundation for future Sonic games for many years.

"Sonic Adventure laid the basis for 20 years of Sonic games after its debut," Iizuka stated. "In the same manner, I sincerely hope that this new title, which will be released in 2022, provides the foundation for future Sonic games - that is the idea behaind the team's challenge."
