Subnautica dev's Unknown Worlds will reveal its newest game at Gamescom

The creators of the hugely popular survival game Subnautica. Subnautica studio Unknown Worlds will present the first gameplay of their upcoming title at Gamescom.

During Geoff Keighly's Opening Night Live showcase, studio co-founder Charlie Cleveland will reveal the game.

The game is a sci-fi turn-based strategy game, but no other information, including the title or release date, has been made public.

The studio's breakout hit, Subnautica, debuted in early access in 2014 before being made available across all platforms. A trio of games for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series were just released.

As of January 2020, the game had sold more than five million copies; however, that number significantly increased as a result of the pandemic's re - emergence in popularity, which was largely attributed to streamers.

Subnautica: Below Zero, the sequel will be released in 2021.

Gamescom 2022 will be held from August 24-28, and will be a hybrid event held both on-site in Cologne and online.

The show will begin with Geoff Keighly's Opening Night Live, which usually includes new game announcements and massive trailers.

Opening Night Live 2021 saw the official reveal of the Saints Row reboot, Marvel's Midnight Suns, and the release date and special edition console for Halo Infinite.

Earlier this week, 2K delayed the release of the Firaxis strategy game yet again, stating that it will arrive sometime during the current fiscal year.

"We have decided to push back the release date of Marvel's Midnight Suns to ensure the teams at Firaxis Games and 2K deliver the best possible experience for our fans," the company said.
