A new update that is now available to Xbox Insiders provides a welcome system improvement for users who want easier access to their games.

Cool new features and services are great when it comes to video game consoles, but frequently it's the general quality-of-life improvements that have the most positive effects on the user experience. With the new update it's started rolling out, Xbox has introduced a useful feature that Xbox users with sizable game libraries will appreciate. Xbox has a pretty good track record when it comes to updating its consoles to make them much more convenient for their owners.

The Alpha Skip-Ahead ring of the Xbox Insider program will receive a new update this week. With new tab-like categories added as part of the update, users now have more options for categorizing their games. A new "All Games" tab has been added, allowing users to view all of their games in one location, despite the fact that subscription services like Xbox Game Pass already offer tabs for specific games.

According to Microsoft, the goal of this new feature is to make it easier for users to access their games. The ability to forget whether a game is in the owned games tab or one of the subscription tabs should be useful for users who have several games spread across standard purchases, Game Pass, and Games with Gold. This can be seen by anyone who is interested thanks to a screenshot shared on Twitter by Luis D Knight.

So apart from the tab redesign, the update adds new options for automatic shutdown times, allowing Xbox users to set their consoles to shut down after 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, or 45 minutes of inactivity. A few fixes have also been added to address connectivity and language issues. To be clear, all of this is currently available only to Xbox Insiders in the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring, and it's unclear when these new features will be available to everyone.

Microsoft recently made a number of improvements to the Xbox user experience. Some of them include installing games from PC, speeding up Xbox console startup times, being able to switch a TV's input from console to console by simply pressing the Xbox button on a controller.

Additionally, it appears that users can anticipate further improvements to their libraries. When a game isn't playable, such as when the game disc isn't in the console or a Game Pass game has been taken off the service, labels are added to Xbox game tittles in another Insider update from last month. This ought to significantly reduce any frustration Xbox users may feel when attempting to access their games.
