Players in Japan have expressed dissatisfaction with one aspect of the newly launched PlayStation Stars loyalty program, which provides superior customer service to players on the highest tier.

PlayStation Stars, which will be available in the West later this month, allows players to earn rewards by completing a variety of campaigns and activities. The program also has a four-tier level system, with all players starting at Level 1 and progressing to Level 4 by purchasing games and earning trophies.

Moreover, some users are dissatisfied with the Level 4 tier's improved customer service, which is unlocked after purchasing four full-priced games from the PlayStation Store and obtaining 128 rare trophies.

According to Sony, the Level 4 tier perks include a commemorative collectible and the promise that "when contacting PlayStation Customer Support, you will be given priority in the chat order. This appears to mean that Level 4 PlayStation Stars members can contact customer support without waiting in line when they have a problem.

Many Twitter users voiced their displeasure at the perk after Japanese website Automaton pointed it out, with some arguing that good customer service ought to be a given and not an extra.

Twitter user akutarosu claimed that "customer support must be equal." There are gamers who can't afford time or money, as well as those who only enjoy a select few games.

User koshifurinyodo also suggested that customer support be prioritized for newcomers, who are more likely to encounter problems.

Customer service is prioritized more as you experiment with it, you claim, they wrote. But as you use it more, you use customer support less and less. That seems strange in some way. New players who are beginners should be given preference.

User gassyii commented, "Rating them by how much you charge is not likely to get a very good response. If you're going up a level based on time played or something, that's fine.

Yossy 44 added, "I don't think it's a good idea to prioritize customer support. I purchased a PS5 specifically to play Final Fantasy 16. Can someone like that be set aside for later?

Others noted that PlayStation Stars might have been more beneficial if it had debuted during the previous generation because it would have provided a legal means of guaranteeing that ardent Sony fans could purchase a PlayStation 5.

Giving high-level priority buyers access to the PS5 wouldn't have made reselling as problematic as it has if this functionality had been available ten years earlier, according to Twitter user battlefield18.

PlayStation Stars will launch in the Americas on October 5 and in Europe and Australia on October 13 after today's Asian launch. When the service launches in the west, it's not yet known if the same benefits will be offered to users there.
