Dedicated Pokemon Scarlet and Violet player completes Shiny Living Dex

After hundreds of hours of gameplay, a very committed Pokemon Scarlet and Violet player has finished their shiny living Pokedex.

A Pokemon Scarlet and Violet player has finally finished their shiny living Pokedex after hundreds of hours of dedication. 400 Pokemon and their matching shiny variants were present in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, which required the capture and storage of 800 additional Pokemon.

Most players just try to "catch 'em all," but the Pokedex mechanic offers a lot of player choice, as evidenced by the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet player who completed their Pokedex before facing any gym leaders. Catching 150 Pokemon at once was a difficult task in the original Pokemon games. It was intriguing to consider that there were so many diverse creatures included in one game, and it was ground-breaking that they could be captured and kept. 150 Pokemon seem insignificant in comparison to the more than a thousand that exist today, 27 years later. Of course, no game in the series has ever contained every Pokemon; Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, which at the time had 807 Pokemon, is the closest.

The fact that Reddit user JonnyTsunami_ has finally gathered all 400 shiny variants is all the more impressive in light of this. It took hundreds of hours of diligent work to locate every Pokemon, as evidenced by the screenshot, which displays a 285-hour play session. Another user commented that after 383 hours of gameplay, they have acquired 157 shiny Pokemon and are also working to complete a living Pokedex. One of every Pokemon that is currently available is also stored in the PC boxes of a game save known as a "living Pokedex," which is often done in the National Pokedex order.

In response to a comment, JonnyTsunami_ also stated that many hours were not recorded because of the game's restart. After 100 hours of play, one user commented that they only have four shiny Pokemon, while another said they struggle to recognize shiny Pokemon. The pursuit of shiny Pokemon often results in heartbreak for other Scarlet and Violet players.

When all of these elements are taken into account, along with the numerous Pokemon Scarlet and Violet glitches that might have gotten in the way, it becomes clear that playing the game wasn't the only thing that went into reaching this goal. It is encouraging to see the incredible dedication put forth by the players as they continue to do amazing things with the games they enjoy.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available on Nintendo Switch.
