Sony claims that the PS5 has sold 30 million units following its biggest month yet

Sony claims that the PS5 has sold 30 million units following its "biggest month yet." According to Jim Ryan, the console is now more widely available.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has reported that more than 30 million PlayStation 5 units have now been sold to consumers.

The PS5 has now shipped to retailers (which is the data it usually shares) at least 10.7 million units during Sony's current fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2023. The sales milestone was announced during a CES showcase on Wednesday.

Shipped figures are typically higher than sold-through figures.

SIE has just under three months to find the up to 7.3 million units needed to meet its 18 million shipped sales target for the year, which it reaffirmed in its most recent sales results released in November (though the real number required is likely less).

SIE president Jim Ryan claimed during Wednesday's CES showcase that December was the PS5's biggest sales month to date and that thanks to increased availability, more consumers can now buy one.

In a previous statement, Sony stated that it planned to ship 23 million PlayStation 5 consoles during its upcoming fiscal year, which starts in April 2023. If achieved, the PlayStation 5 would outsell the PlayStation 4 at the same stage of its lifecycle.

The electronics titan shipped 3.3 million PS5 units during the three months ended September 30, 2022 (FY2022 Q2), the same figure it achieved during the same period last year, it announced in November.

At the time, Sony stated that PS5 sales were proceeding as expected and that it thought it could still reach its 18 million sales goal. According to the company, 6.5 million consoles were produced in Q2.
