UChicago Frat Party Assault: Police Identify Person of Interest as Investigation Begins

CHICAGO — Police are investigating a reported sexual assault near the University of Chicago campus following an incident at an off-campus house hosted by the Alpha Epsilon Pi (AEPi) fraternity, local authorities and university officials confirmed.

The incident reportedly occurred during the early morning hours of Sunday, October 11, 2026. According to the University of Chicago Police Department (UCPD) daily crime log and reports cited by the Chicago Sun-Times, a 21-year-old woman who is not affiliated with the university reported being assaulted inside a bathroom during a party.

Details of the Incident and Response

According to police logs and witness accounts, friends of the victim intervened after finding her inside a bathroom with an unknown male. Witnesses reported that individuals near the doorway initially attempted to block entry before the friends forced their way in to assist her.

The victim was later transported to the University of Chicago Hospital for medical evaluation.

Person of Interest Identified

On October 13, University of Chicago officials released an update stating that a person of interest had been identified using witness statements, campus surveillance cameras, and automated license-plate readers.

Officials confirmed that the individual identified is not a student, has no affiliation with the university, and has been officially banned from campus premises. The evidence has been turned over to the Chicago Police Department (CPD), which is leading the criminal investigation.

As of mid-week, Chicago Police confirmed that the investigation remains active and ongoing, and no formal charges or arrests have been made.

Fraternity Statement and Institutional Status

Representatives for the Alpha Epsilon Pi chapter clarified that, based on their knowledge, no members of the fraternity were involved in the alleged incident. No fraternity members have been named as suspects or charged by law enforcement.

University officials noted that fraternities operating near Hyde Park are not formally recognized student organizations affiliated with the university, though enrolled students remain subject to institutional conduct policies. The investigation remains open as CPD works to establish the facts.
