Stray, a new PlayStation-exclusive game about the adventure of a stray cat, will have its release date pushed back from 2021 to 2022. PlayStation Exclusive Game Stray has released a new gameplay trailer.

Cats in video games are frequently needless additional elements, with the main character being able to do things like pet or pick them up. While this is a fan-favorite trope, Stray, an upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive in which the protagonist is an actual cat traversing a cyberpunk city hunting for its family, flips this typical equation on its head. While information has been limited recently, the drought has ended with the release of an extended Stray gameplay trailer today.

Stray's first trailer was published in June as a teaser trailer by independent developer BlueTwelve. The initial teaser largely focused on the game's environment, which appears to be a bleak, neon-lit cyberpunk metropolis teeming with humanoid robots with cathode monitor-like heads. This new teaser shows off Stray's gameplay and focuses on the cat himself.

Many of the features that players will encounter on their journey through the strange city are covered in the Stray gameplay walkthrough, which was released to the official PlayStation YouTube account. The trailer, which is narrated by one of BlueTwelve's creators, begins by describing the game's idea, followed by numerous parts of platforming action: leaping across levels, exploring unique paths to access certain locations, utilizing objects to get past barriers, and more. The creator discusses how a cat's unique perspective allows for innovative options in level design, such as a laser grid or spiraling rain pipe, which are difficult for humans but not a problem for the intrepid feline.

The gameplay footage also reveals B-12, the cat's drone buddy, according to an update on Stray's official website. B-12 is a cat's best friend, capable of interacting with a wide range of objects in the environment, interpreting the language of human-like robots, and storing a variety of items. The growing bond between the cat and B-12 will be a "key aspect" of the game. While the video illustrates how the game will be replete with "cats will be cats"-type interactions like couch-clawing, it also shows one of the game's major hazards. "Zurks," as they're known, are violent swarms of animals that assault the cat and are allegedly a major problem for the city's residents.

The gameplay trailer for Stray was one among several shown during today's Annapurna Interactive July showcase. The video game publisher revealed sneak peeks for a number of future releases, including the highly stylized action game Solar Ash and the music-inspired platformer The Artful Escape, which features an A-list voice cast that includes Lena Headey from Game of Thrones and Carl Weathers from The Mandalorian. The greatest takeaway for many fans, though, was Stray's gameplay trailer, which was held until nearly the conclusion of the showcase.

Stray is set to be released for the Ps4 and Ps5 in "early 2022."
