Japanese Gamers selected the top 100 games of all time in Japan.

A Japanese tv program surveys 50,000 gamers to make a list of the country's top video games of all time.

TV Asashi recently polled 50,000 Japanese players to determine the most popular video games ever released in the country. The results of this poll were broadcast in a special program that included celebrity guests and other unique features as the games were ranked from 100 to 1.

The complete list of 100 video games includes numerous titles that one might expect, such as many entries in the Persona and Pokemon series, as well as a number of Super Mario video games. Some games, such as Super Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and others, are conspicuously lacking and may surprise you. However, this is a fairly wide and varied list that includes a lot of well-known franchises.

With only a few exceptions, the most majority of the games on the list are freely available in regions outside of Japan, and anyone interested in checking some of these out should have no trouble doing it and.

The top ten is remarkable, with a diversity of game names featured, though Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest are each represented twice. Some may be surprised by the newness of the top five, like Splatoon 2, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild are all relatively recent titles. They're also all Nintendo Switch exclusives, so it's no wonder that Nintendo's home console/handheld hybrid has been a huge hit in Japan. In fact, another Nintendo Switch exclusive game, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, is a little higher up in the top 10 at number 7.

A similar poll in other nations would be interesting to see how gaming tastes varied from one region to another, but in the meantime, fans can check at Japan's top 100 best video game titles.
