A new PS5 firmware update size is coming in at nearly 902MB, is now available for PS5 users to download. PS5 update 21.01-03.21.00 appears to do little more than improve system performance, although it is still required for those who wish to use the PS5's online functions. Fortunately, the update is rather short, so it should not be forced to change one's gaming time.Sony released its PS5 hardware last year, and while PS5 supply shortages continue to be an issue, the machine has been well-received overall. The PS5's increased processing capability over the PS4 is no joke, and the console's SSD is a game-changer. Even so, there's always space for improvement, and Sony, as it did with the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, has provided updates regularly to keep the PS5 and its performance in check.
The previous PS5 update, released in June, also changed the DualSense wireless controller and enhanced performance and stability.
Version 21.01-03.20.00 resolved an issue that limited the functioning of various panels when the screen reader was active and a problem in which games hidden on the PS4 were not hidden on the PS5.
Sony published version 21.01-03.00.00 in April, which was the most significant upgrade since the debut of the next-generation platform, including a slew of accessibility improvements and game library options.
The introduction of UI themes is one of the improvements that fans seem to want the most. Users of the PlayStation 4 can change the backgrounds and sound effects of their consoles by adding a choice of themes acquired from games, promotions, or purchased from the PlayStation Store. Someone who has been gaming on the PlayStation 4 for a while is likely to have a large collection of background themes that they would like to use on the PlayStation 5. Unfortunately, at the time of writing, the PS5 still lacks custom themes.
The PS5 user experience is quite different from the PS4 UI, which could explain why themes have yet to make their way to Sony's next-generation device. However, given how many themes have been released for the PS4 over the years, one has to assume that Sony wants to introduce custom themes in the future. Having said that, nothing official has been announced as of yet, so fans should temper their expectations.
There will be many more PS5 system updates in the coming months and years, so even if fans have to wait a little longer for themes, there should be plenty of other new features to look forward to.
