Stray is a harsh, scary cyberpunk story with a cute kitty heroine. Here's all we know about BlueTwelve's cat game so far anyway.
Stray was a standout announcement during Sony's Future of Gaming presentation last year, where the PlayStation 5's design was finally revealed. While the game's short reveal video didn't disclose much about the game, viewers were immediately captivated by its gritty, android-filled cyberpunk environment and, of course, the cute cat roaming around it.
Although Stray is still a ways away, due to publisher Annapurna's latest preview, we've learned a little bit more about developer BlueTwelve Studio's game. Here's all we know thus far about Stray.
Stray: Trailer
Fans finally got to see more of Stray in a four-and-a-half-minute lengthy gameplay walkthrough that reveals that this is a third-person puzzle-adventure game with outstanding graphics, more than a year after its original announcement video. In it, we witness the cat exploring dark, unwelcoming settings and solving obstacles by holding an object in its mouth and dropping it to break the glass. This film also showed B-12, the cat's drone friend who would join it on its adventure and assist it in communicating.
What Is the Story of Stray?
All we know about Stray's story so far is that it focuses on a cat searching for its family. During this adventure, the cat will meet and befriend B-12, who will assist the cat in navigating this weird and fascinating world. The cyberpunk metropolis packed with humanlike machines will undoubtedly play a significant role in Stray's plot, as the creators describe it as "a long-forgotten" location from which the cat must flee while discovering its mysteries.
Stray: What We Know So Far?
Stray's trailer indicates that it will use a combination of stealth, fun, and (at times) mayhem to achieve the feline protagonist's aims, as would be expected for a cat-centric game. Things like exploring and jumping across ledges, however, appear to be managed with a simple button push when prompted, rather than true platforming.
The cat will encounter attackers and must use speed, leaping, and magic to escape. The trailer does show a purple light, apparently originating from B-12, vanquishing little bug-like critters and forcing a humanoid monster to run, but it's unclear how these "spells" operate.
When Is the Stray Released?
Stray was originally supposed to be released in 2021 and was even rumored to be released in October of that year, but it has since been pushed back to 2022. The creators stated in a tweet that this choice was taken to ensure the quality of Stray as well as the team's well-being. No specific date was provided, but BlueTwelve hopes to release it early this year. Stray will be released on PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 when it is released.
