Visual novel video games, which cater to a certain niche audience, appear to be thriving in the midst of today's action-packed, graphics-intensive blockbusters. Visual novels are some of the most popular video games, with engaging narratives, fascinating characters, and gorgeous artwork. Team Salvato's indie game Doki Doki Literature Club is one such popular title, and it was just reported that its physical release on the Nintendo Switch has been delayed for the second time.

Fans of visual novels have most certainly heard of or played Doki Doki Literature Club. When it was originally published in 2017, the game witnessed a rise in online popularity due to the fact that it was essentially free for users to download on the PC, as well as its innocent-looking graphics. The original idea of Doki Doki Literature Club is a charming dating sim that brought in many curious gamers, but the unusual narrative twists inside the story likely captured the majority of the visual novel's diehard admirers. Doki Doki Literature Club fans will have to wait even longer to get their hands on a real cartridge of their favorite visual novel title, as the title's physical release has been postponed yet again.

Serenity Forge, the publisher of Doki Doki Literature Club, announced on Twitter that the physical release of the visual novel title on the Switch has been delayed even more. The physical release was initially scheduled for July 2021, however, the publisher stated in August that it had been moved back to September 2021. Serenity Forge has now announced that the premium physical versions of Doki Doki Literature Club Plus will be available on October 8, 2021.

Serenity Forge's statement made it very obvious that the current epidemic was a significant reason for the delay. The lockdowns not only slowed the video game development business as a whole, but also had a detrimental influence on production, labor, and shipping. All of these difficulties combined to make it difficult for Serenity Forge to deliver Doki Doki Literature Club Plus on schedule in September.

Nonetheless, with the release date of October 2021 only a few weeks away, visual novel enthusiasts and physical cartridge collectors won't have to wait long to get their hands on the game. Hopefully, there will be enough copies to go around, and the publishers will be able to meet the Doki Doki Literature Club fanbase's demand.

Doki Doki Literature Club game featured on the Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
