Nintendo has made an attempt to improve its online services since the launching of the Nintendo Switch in 2017. Nintendo Switch Online, a service aimed at bringing more online capabilities to gamers, was revealed around a year after the hybrid console's introduction. Nintendo is offering fans a new chance to try out the service, which has been around for a few years.

It was recently announced that players will be able to try out the Nintendo Switch Online service for the first time. Nintendo of America announced this in a tweet on November 16. Nintendo Switch Online will be offered a 7-day free trial to anyone who does not currently have an active membership to the online service, according to the firm. The fascinating feature of this trial is that it is open to anybody, regardless of whether they have previously engaged in a free trial.

This new free trial allows gamers to try out all of the features that are only available as part of the annual $19.99 Nintendo Switch Online membership. The ability to play games online with pals is a big benefit of the online service. Splatoon 2, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and the recently launched Mario Party Superstars are among the Nintendo Switch games that feature online play. The free trial gives users access to several iconic retro games from the NES and SNES eras, such as Super Metroid, The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past, and Super Mario Kart, in addition to online play for newer games.

It should be noted, although, that the benefits of the Expansion Pack are not included in this free trial. The Expansion Pack, which comes as part of an improved edition of Nintendo Switch Online, adds various new features for a greater fee. Access to Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis games is one of the enhanced online service's highlights. Expansion Pack customers who own Animal Crossing: New Horizons will also receive the Happy Home Paradise DLC for free.

This announcement of a new 7-day free trial of Nintendo Switch Online comes at a time when Nintendo has been criticized for its handling of the Expansion Pack. Many players have criticized the $30 price increase above the base service. Furthermore, gamers have expressed dissatisfaction with the poor emulation of some of the N64 games introduced to the site.

Nintendo took a surprising step by excluding the commercial version of its online subscription from the free trial. With the current debate surrounding the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack, giving a more expensive subscription could have been a strategy to entice additional subscribers. Time will tell how many individuals sign up for this trial and whether it leads to more people signing up for the online service in the future.
