Xbox Head Phil Spencer has spoken out regarding one of the most talked-about topics in the technological world right now: NFTs, or non-fungible tokens. Spencer told Axios that he has seen a lot of "speculation and experimenting" in the field.

Xbox, as the operator of one of the world's largest online gaming marketplaces, has the authority to admit or exclude NFT gaming companies and projects from its ecosystem.

"What I'd say today about NFT overall is that I think there's a lot of prediction and experimenting going on and that some of the creative stuff I'm seeing today feels more exploitive than about entertaining," he said.

Spencer stated that he does not feel NFTs in the gaming industry are fundamentally negative. He did, however, promise that Microsoft would take action against any NFT gaming project that was "exploitative" on the Xbox platform. NFT games, for example, were just banned from Steam by Valve.

"I don't believe that every NFT game has to be exploitive. I just believe we're on the verge of people finding it out "he stated "And I understand that you will see a lot of stuff early on that you will most likely not want to have in your store. I believe that anything we saw in our storefront that we thought was exploitative would be something we would, you know, act on. That's not the type of content we're looking for."

Andrew Wilson, the CEO of Electronic Arts, is also upbeat about NFTs. "I believe the play-to-earn or NFT debate is still in its early stages, and there is a lot of discussions. And there's a lot of hoopla around it on some levels "Wilson remarked. "On a long-term basis, I believe it will be a significant element of our—of our industry's destiny. But it's still too early to figure out how it will work."
