Pokemon Go developer announced Pokemon Go's first Community day in January 2022.

With the first Community Day in 2022, Pokemon Go will reshape its metagame. Pokemon Go updated its players earlier today with new information regarding the game's upcoming Community Day, which will take place on January 16, 2022.

Spheal, a dual Ice and Water-type creature, will be the spotlight Pokémon for next month's event, according to a blog post. Spheal will spawn nearly exclusively between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. (time depending by player location), as is customary for Community Day events, and there will be a higher possibility of capturing a "Shiny" variant - in this case, a lovely Fuschia pink version rather than the typical ice blue.

Spheal, an Ice/Water-type Pokemon first seen in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, will be included in the new event. While the game already includes Spheal's Shiny version, Community Day will provide players the opportunity to obtain a Walrein (Spheal's fully evolved form) with a revamped moveset. Sealeo will learn the skills Powder Snow and Icicle Spear when it evolves into Walrein during the event. Icicle Spear is a new move in Pokemon Go that deals 60 damage; depending on how much energy is required to use the move, it could provide Walrein a lot more Ultra League PVP opportunities. When Pokemon Go's Game Master data is updated, likely ahead of the Community Day event in a few months, more details about how much of an upgrade Icicle Spear receives will be revealed.

During the event, there will be a triple catch XP boost, as well as the usually increased effectiveness of Incense and Lures. All players will also receive 30 Ultra Balls for free, with a bundle comprising 50 Ultra Balls, five Super Incubators, five Lucky Eggs, and an Elite Fast TM costing 1,280 Poke Coins.

Following the Pokemon Go Tour: Johto event, this is the second announced Pokemon Go event for 2022. On February 26, 2022, the Pokemon Go Tour: Johto event will take place, including the 100 Pokemon that debuted in Pokemon Gold and Silver. Notably, Shiny variants of all 100 Johto Pokemon will be available during the event, including roughly 20 Pokemon whose Shiny forms have yet to be released in the game.

Players who want to get their hands on another unique Spheal may jump into the game right now, as a holiday-themed Spheal wearing a warm, colorful scarf is presently appearing at random. This form of Spheal, like most costumed Pokémon in Pokémon GO, cannot be grown.
