God of war PC got 50,000 active steam players on its release. |
God of war PC version had 65,000 active steam players on its release.
On the day of its release, the PC version of God of War attracted about 65,000 concurrent gamers on Steam.
According to SteamDB, the Sony Santa Monica game reached a peak of 65,403 active gamers on Friday.
It means that God of War, at No. 22, was unable to break into Steam's Top 20 games in terms of concurrent players on Friday, although it's worth remembering that nearly all of the games above it on launch day were multiplayer games.
The statistic is similar to Sony's other major first-party PC opening, Horizon Zero Dawn, which had a release day top of 56,557 peaked. Days Gone finished with a total of 27,450 votes.
Because these are Steam-only data, they exclude sales of PlayStation PC games on the Epic Games Store, which includes Days Gone, Horizon, and God of War.
According to Sony, God of War was launched for PS4 in April 2018 and had sold 19.5 million units as of August 2021. God of War Ragnarök, the sequel, will be released in 2022 for PS4 and PS5.
Although the port was generally executed by Canadian studio Jetpack Interactive, the project was overseen by the game's original designers at Santa Monica Studio. The PC port of God of War has been in production for at least two years, according to a senior developer.
Last June, PlayStation Studios CEO Hermen Hulst stated that the company was "still early in our plans for PC," but that consoles will continue to be the priority for new releases.
