Horizon Forbidden West PS4's first gameplay footage has been revealed.

Guerrilla Games has revealed the first Horizon Forbidden West PS4 gameplay footage, which can be seen below.

The PS4 Pro gameplay videos below were released on Thursday to coincide with the announcement that the title has gone gold ahead of its February 18 release date.

Guerrilla stated earlier this year that Horizon fans should not be concerned that the PS4 version of Forbidden West has been harmed as a result of the studio's work on the PS5 version.

Sony announced Horizon: Forbidden West for PS5 in June 2020, after already confirming a PS4 version in September.

Whereas the capacity of the PS5 has allowed Guerrilla to add additional levels of detail to the game on the newer console, lead character artist Bastien Ramisse told the PlayStation Blog in September that the team is striving to create an equally engaging experience on all platforms.

"We actually built and tested the game on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, since it's very important to us as a studio that PlayStation 4 users have an equally immersive experience," he explained.

"With our knowledge from Horizon Zero Dawn, we knew we still had some untapped resources that could push the realism and quality of our character assets further; it's fantastic to finally be able to tap into that knowledge and experience for the sequel."

"Most prominent difference and improvements for Aloy in terms of technology are the push of facial and body capture accuracy, allowing for more realistic shapes and surface details on characters, as well as the careful increase of polygon density to capture handmade and used outfits," he continued.

Horizon Forbidden West director Mathijs de Jonge also said in an interview released last June that the game hasn't been hampered by the weaker of its two target platforms.

He told Hardware Zone that the studio's concept for the project was not limited by PS4 hardware limits. Aside from 3D audio, rapid loading, and DualSense support, the primary difference between the two versions of the game, according to him, is in the graphics.

"We can add so much more detail graphically on the PlayStation 5." For example, we can see the small hairs on Aloy's face. You can also notice a lot of detail from a distance."

Sony just pushed back the release date of Horizon Forbidden West to February 2022. It also reversed plans to provide free PS5 upgrades to users who purchased Horizon Forbidden West's PS4 standard version.
