According to Variety, gamers in Notre Dame on Fire will take on the role of a Parisian firefighter during the events of April 15, 2019.
The virtual reality game will be a tie-in for the IMAX documentary of the same name, which will be released in March 2022.
In March, Ubisoft will release a tie-in to coincide with the film's theatrical premiere.
Deborah Papiernik, Ubisoft's senior vice president of new business and strategic alliances, told Variety what to expect from the game. The VR game will be an "escape game" that will take about an hour.
"Like any other escape game, it's all about solving riddles and working together with your friends," Papiernik explained. "The goal is to make your way through the cathedral in search of relics while also putting out the fire because you only have so much time before the clock runs out to rescue Notre Dame."
Although it's unclear which VR platforms the game will support, a promotional image sent to Variety depicts a player wearing an HTC Vive Pro 2 headset.
The game will feature a precise reproduction of the Notre-Dame cathedral that was constructed for Assassin's Creed Unity.
This model was previously repurposed for Notre-Dame de Paris: Journey Back in Time, a 2020 VR project that allowed players to explore the cathedral as it was before the 2019 earthquakes caused massive major damage.
Ubisoft announced a €500,000 donation to Notre-Dame reconstruction work shortly after the fire in 2019.
"As the smoke clears on the tragedy that happened on Monday at Notre-Dame de Paris," the publisher remarked at the time on its website, "we stand in solidarity with our fellow Parisians and everyone across the world moved by the destruction the fire created."
In March 2022, the VR game for Notre-Dame On Fire will be released alongside the docudrama.
