WWE 2K22's Release Date, Cover Star, and Pre-Order Bonuses Have Been Revealed

WWE 2K22 reveals the game's release date, cover star, and pre-order bonuses for the different versions that will be available at launch.

2K Sports is very well familiar with how fans felt about WWE 2K20, which had less-than-stellar sales but by far the poorest review scores in the franchise's history. The negative reaction to WWE 2K20 was so strong that 2K Sports decided to give developer Visual Concepts an extra year to work on WWE 2K22, which will ultimately be released in March, just in preparation for WWE's major WrestleMania show.

Gamers have known for a while that WWE 2K22 would be released in March, but now they know exactly when the game will be released. The release date for WWE 2K22 has been set for Friday, March 11. Pre-ordering the Deluxe Edition ($99.99) or the nWo 4-Life Edition ($119.99) will grant early access to WWE 2K22, allowing them to play the game on Tuesday, March 8. Standard Editions ($59.99 on PS4 and Xbox One, $69.99 on PS5 and Xbox Series X) and a Cross-Gen Bundle ($79.99) are also available, however pre-ordering does not guarantee early access.

WWE 2K22 users who pre-order the Standard Edition or Cross-Gen Bundle will instead receive the Undertaker Immortal Pack, which includes three different versions of The Undertaker. The Undertaker Immortal Pack will include Undertaker-themed content for the MyFACTION game mode, but the precise forms of The Undertaker that will be included have yet to be revealed. Those who purchase the Deluxe Edition or nWo 4-Life Edition will additionally receive the Undertaker Immortal Pack.

2K Sports has revealed the cover athlete for WWE 2K22, in addition to confirming the game's release date and pre-order bonuses. Rather go with newer talents like Roman Reigns or Sasha Banks, who were rumored for the WWE 2K22 cover this year, 2K Sports went with WWE legend Rey Mysterio. With Mysterio as the game's cover athlete, the 2K Showcase mode will undoubtedly focus on his career.

Other information on what this 2K Showcase mode will involve have yet to be published, but Mysterio himself has mentioned a few possible matchups. Like previous editions of the game option, the WWE 2K22 2K Showcase mode allows players to relieve some of the featured star's most memorable matches. This features Mysterio's WrestleMania 21 match with Eddie Guerrero, as well as his Raw match with Shawn Michaels on the Eddie Guerrero Tribute Show edition. The World Heavyweight Championship contest between Rey Mysterio and The Undertaker, which took place at the 2010 Royal Rumble, is another encounter that fans may look forward to seeing.

WWE 2K22 will be available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X on March 11th.
