Android 21 has been one of the most popular characters in Arc System Works' hugely successful fighting game Dragon Ball FighterZ since her introduction as its primary adversary in Dragon Ball FighterZ. The game's original Android has since made appearances in newer titles in the franchise, including Android 21 in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot and fans modding the Android into Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. Now, the game that hailed the debut of the latest Android is set to introduce a new method to play the fan-favorite character.
Arc System Works collaborated with Dragon Ball Z artist Akira Toriyama to produce Android 21, a bio-Android formed from cells from another of the franchise's most memorable opponents, Majin Buu. While Android 21 was originally represented in human form, the Majin form of Android 21 with the trademark pink skin and white hair was the only variation of the Android available for players to unlock. Arc System Works has recently stated that Android 21's 'Lab Coat' human form would be added to the game.
The teaser officially introduces Android 21's Lab Coat form and her relationship with Android 16, while also teasing the trademark Majin hunger that drove her to her initial Majin transformation throughout the Dragon Ball FighterZ saga. So many Android 21's special powers find inspiration from Android 16, with her Ultimate move, in particular, paying homage to 16's 'Hell Flash' style. Fans won't have to wait long to play as her, as the trailer announces that Lab Coat Android 21 will be released on February 24th for FighterZ.
Lab Coat Android 21 continues a recent trend in FighterZ, with the game introducing a slew of new characters from the franchise's expanded universe in the last year, including two Dragon Ball GT characters in 2021. Super Baby 2, an enhanced version of Dragon Ball GT's initial enemy, was released in early 2021, along with the much-anticipated Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta, with earlier additions from the third FighterZ battle pass including Ultra Instinct Goku and Kefla from Dragon Ball Super.
The game has had no sign of slowing down in recent years, with Dragon Ball FighterZ recently celebrating its fourth anniversary. Last August's Version 1.28 update brought considerable modifications to the game's balance and mechanics, and Arc System Works announced in November that the game had sold over eight million copies. FighterZ's success has been remarkable, and Arc System Works plans to keep the game's success going in the future by adding new characters on a regular basis.
Dragon Ball FighterZ is now available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
