Call of Duty on Switch |
Brad Smith, speaking to CNBC, highlighted that the acquisition will not prevent future Activision Blizzard games from being launched on PlayStation consoles.
However, Smith went one step further, saying that Call of Duty and other Activision Blizzard games will be released on Nintendo Switch for the first time.
"As we move ahead with the regulatory assessment of this transaction, one of the things we're being very clear about is that excellent titles like Call of Duty from Activision Blizzard today will continue to be available on the Sony PlayStation," Smith said.
"We'd like to introduce it to Nintendo devices," he continued. We'd like to bring the other popular Activision Blizzard titles and ensure that they remain available on PlayStation and Nintendo.
"Minecraft was the first purchase made after Satya Nadella took over as CEO. That happened in September of 2014. And I believe what we've done with that acquisition is a good indication of what we want to do if we buy Activision Blizzard.
"Specifically, spend even more in innovation, make it available to more people, on more platforms, and make it even more useful and ideally enjoyable for those who use it."
In a blog post published on Wednesday, Smith also stated that at least some Activision and Blizzard games would be launched on PlayStation in the future.
"To really be fair," he added, "Microsoft will continue to make Call of Duty and other popular Activision Blizzard titles available on PlayStation for the duration of any ongoing Activision agreement."
"And we've promised Sony that we'll continue to make them available on PlayStation once the current deal expires, so Sony fans can keep playing their favorite games."
