Pokemon: Mewtwo celebrates his birthday today February 6

Today is the original birthday of the Legendary Pokemon Mewtwo, though this has already been retconned by Pokemon fans.

The Pokemon franchise has a rich origin story that looks into the past of its in-game universe, as well as its characters and Pokemon. However, few stories are as well-loved and well-known as the Legendary Pokemon Mewtwo's. 

Mewtwo is one of the most well-known Pokemon in the franchise, having debuted in Pokemon Red and Blue, performed in many Pokemon movies, and even earned a place on the Super Smash Bros. roster. It's no wonder, then, that Mewtwo's birthday is being celebrated by Pokemon lovers all over the world.

Mewtwo's birth date is now unofficially known to be February 6th. The origin of Mewtwo is revealed in the original Pokemon games through journals found in the Pokemon Mansion on Cinnabar Island. One significant page in the diaries says "Mew delivered birth," and thus the legend of Mewtwo began. This journal page was also included in the remakes of Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen. That is why Pokemon lovers are honoring Mewtwo's birthday today.

As previously stated, Mewtwo's birthday is recognized unofficial by the modern Pokemon canon. This is due to a number of issues. To begin with, the lore of the original Pokemon Red and Blue is a little unclear. While it is true that Mew gave birth to Mewtwo, the Pokemon Mansion diaries also reveal that Mewtwo was developed "after years of extreme gene splicing and DNA engineering experiment." As a result, even according to the original games' storyline, any single date may not be proper to consider as Mewtwo's birthday.

It is February 6th.

Furthermore, in later Pokemon versions, this birthday has been retconned. The diary describing Mewtwo's birth has been altered in the Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Pokemon Let's Go Eevee modern remakes of Pokemon Yellow. "We got a new Pokemon from Mew," the diary now says, adding to the situation's complexity.

To make matters even more confusing, the Pokemon anime has taken a whole different route. Mewtwo's genesis is modified to a clone of Mew by Team Rocket in the first official Pokemon animated movie, rather than genetic transformation.

Whatever the official Pokemon canon says about Mewtwo's birth and origin, fans aren't going to let that stop them from celebrating. None of that will change the fact that February 6 is Mewtwo's birthday. The official Pokemon Twitter account, on the other hand, may elect not to publish anything.
