Overall live streaming increased by 21% over last year, according to Stream Hatchet's 2021 Video Game Live Streaming Trends Report.
Twitch continues to dominate viewership, with 71 % hours viewed last year, according to the live-streaming analytics service.
According to the research, the genre of open-world games attracted the greatest viewing, with Minecraft, Grand Theft Auto V, and Rust amassing 4.28 billion hours watched in 2021.
Shooters and battle royales were the second-most viewed category, with Fortnite, Garena Free Fire, Valorant, PUBG Mobile, and Call of Duty: Warzone generating over 1 billion hours of views.
"Our latest report clearly reveals that video game live-streaming has managed to sustain a large portion of the viewing numbers that the platforms picked up during the outbreak," Stream Hatchet CEO Eduard Monsterrat stated.
