Battlefield 2042 creator DICE says that the studio has learned Its lessons varied from the mixed reaction to the latest first-person shooter game.

Battlefield 2042 had an incredibly problematic launch, according to most critics. Many people were turned off by DICE's latest shooter because of many problems and glitches throughout the game, as well as tweaks to the basic gameplay. Battlefield 2042 is now being outperformed on Steam by three older Battlefield games due to the large number of gamers who have left the game. With Battlefield 2042 having been out for a few months and little change in fan sentiment, many are expecting that the game's future will provide a better experience.

It isn't just gamers that are hopeful that the next Battlefield game will beat Battlefield 2042. DICE, the Battlefield series' developer, recently admitted in an interview that Battlefield 2042 had some weaknesses, adding that the team will work to address the numerous issues raised by players. According to DICE, the basic plan for the next Battlefield game, which has already begun pre-production, is to build on the success of Battlefield 2042.

However, with the positive response to Battlefield 2042, those intentions have quickly changed. The latest Battlefield game will no longer serve as the foundation, and ideas for a Battlefield hero shooter, similar to Call of Duty and Overwatch, are being postponed. Battlefield 2042's specialists appear to be one of the primary concerns that DICE is focused on, with both the developer and publisher EA conducting playtests to better tie the positions to the classes that appeared in previous Battlefield games.

So far, DICE has said nothing about Battlefield 2042's dismal launch, wants to focus on the aspects of gameplay that fans dislike, such as specialists and other improvements, rather than the bugs and glitches that hampered the game's release. However, given the history of Battlefield releases, such as the lukewarm reception of Battlefield 4, it's possible that DICE would rather focus on individual issues with the newest game rather than trying to remedy faults that have affected the franchise for years.

This isn't to imply that DICE is abandoning Battlefield 2042 totally; new fixes are being provided to keep the game running. However, it appears like DICE would prefer to start over rather than try to salvage Battlefield 2042 in any way. There's still hope for fans of the earlier games, as it appears DICE has realized that copying hero shooters and inventing completely new features don't always pay off.

Battlefield 2042 is now available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
