Turkey's concerns about Finland and Sweden's applications to join NATO will be addressed, according to NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg.

During a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, he stated this on "European truth."

"Finland and Sweden's decision to apply for NATO membership is historically significant. It demonstrates that violence and intimidation will not define European security. NATO enlargement would be a huge success, according to all allies "Stoltenberg explained.

He stated that Turkey has expressed concerns about terrorism and their security interests and that NATO will find a way to resolve and agree on these issues.

"As Norwegians, I am familiar with Finland and Sweden; they will contribute to our collective defense and security. This will be especially significant for the Baltic region. However, let me emphasize that I recognize the importance of resolving the issues raised by Turkey "He stated.

Stoltenberg added that during the talks, NATO should consider the security concerns expressed by Finland and Sweden about the interim period.

"For this reason, we have increased our presence in the Baltic region: a NATO-led amphibious assault group and a greater presence in this region of Europe," he said.

Turkey is the only NATO member country that has spoken out against Sweden and Finland joining the alliance. Unofficially, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hopes to obtain certain concessions from the US regarding the sale of aircraft and sanctions imposed on Turkey for the purchase of Russian S-400s.
