'Xbox Game Pass Friends and Family' reportedly found on Xbox backend

Game Pass Friends and Family

Microsoft recently announced a multi-user subscription test in Ireland and Columbia. According to reports, a logo for "Xbox Game Pass Friends and Family" has been found, which may indicate an official multi-user subscription is soon to be released.

The alleged service logo was found by Twitter user @ALumia Italia, who crawls the Xbox backend.

Microsoft revealed earlier this month that it was testing a new Xbox Game Pass Ultimate tier in Ireland and Columbia that would permit subscribers to share their membership with a number of users.

It it seems that the new service tier's launch name will be Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family.

According to a statement made by Microsoft earlier this month, users in Ireland and Colombia will be able to "add up to four people to [their] subscription, all with their own unique access to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate games, content, and benefits."

Although they are not required to be Insiders, players who are added to a subscription must reside in the same nation as the Insider who is adding them. This effectively limits the trial to Ireland and Colombia for the time being.

Additionally, it appears that when this new program is made available to the entire Xbox community in the future, it will cost more than Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

According to an Xbox blog explaining the plan, "Joining the Game Pass Insider Preview will convert the time remaining on your membership to time in the new plan, based upon the monetary value of the old membership."

For instance, under this plan, a full month of Ultimate will be translated into 18 days of membership. This way, when your subscription is converted, you won't lose any of the remaining value. Conversion is final, and users cannot switch back to an earlier membership until their new membership has expired.

The "family" plan would cost $25 per month, as opposed to $15 per month for Game Pass Ultimate, if this calculation were to hold true if the plan were to be made available to all users.
