Yesterday's Minecraft Live event gave fans a first look at several new features that will be included in the next major Minecraft update, including a new type of bamboo wood that will allow players to decorate their worlds with a variety of new blocks and items, as well as a new type of boat - the raft. This year's major Minecraft event had a lot to show off, including an in-depth look at the upcoming Minecraft Legends as well as a sneak peek at the upcoming season of Minecraft Dungeons.

The naming of the 1.20 update for Minecraft was an odd omission from the event, and some players were perplexed by the scant amount of information made public in comparison to other update reveals in recent years. To avoid overpromising and underdelivering on new features, Mojang wanted to take a more measured approach to announcing new content, according to one of the game's developers, Brandon Pearce, who explained on Twitter.

Mojang revealed that players will soon be able to use bamboo to craft another new variant of wood, in addition to hanging signs, chiseled bookshelves, and a new camel mob. Players will be able to populate their worlds with even more interesting creations while exploring the oceans of Minecraft with a new type of boat, complete with the usual array of blocks, slabs, stairs, fences, doors, and more. The raft, a new bamboo-crafted boat variant, will have its own distinct appearance while functioning similarly to any other type of boat. This includes the ability to attach a chest to it, allowing players to bring more loot home with them from their journeys.

Along with the other aforementioned features, the addition of seven new default skins in the next Minecraft update suggests that players will soon be able to add much more variety and personality to their Minecraft creations. Players can certainly expect a theme to this update, as was the case with the game's Wild Update earlier this year, as well as many updates prior to it - though the full roster of new features, as well as the update's official name, have yet to be revealed.

While a large portion of the community is eager to learn more about the unnamed 1.20 update, many players are enthusiastic about the new bamboo wood and hanging signs, which will let them add much more detail to their builds. The popular franchise's fans have a lot to look forward to in the near future thanks to recent updates to Minecraft and Minecraft Dungeons as well as the brand-new Minecraft Legends, which is scheduled to release in Spring 2023.

Minecraft is available on mobile, PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and a number of legacy platforms.
