Assassin's Creed Jade online gameplay has been revealed

The gameplay for the upcoming mobile game Assassin's Creed Codename Jade has been leaked, revealing what appears to be an early section of the title. It was one of several projects announced under the Assassin's Creed banner earlier this year, though it drew criticism when it was revealed to be a mobile game. A video of Assassin's Creed Jade gameplay leaking online shows a battle taking place along the Great Wall of China.

Ubisoft Forward in September was the ideal opportunity for the publisher to flesh out its projects that players could expect in the coming years. Assassin's Creed, which hasn't had a mainline entry since Assassin's Creed Valhalla was released in November 2020, is one of the most anticipated franchises from the French company. Fans of the series were ecstatic to learn that not one, but multiple titles were in the works, including Assassin's Creed Mirage, a 2023 release that would allegedly take the franchise back before the transition to an open-world role-playing game. Meanwhile, Assassin's Creed Jade was marketed as having "classic" Assassin's Creed gameplay while operating in an open world.

The reveal trailer started strong, but many people's hopes were quickly dashed when the phrase "Coming Soon to Mobile" appeared, and a recent gameplay leak of the mobile game has comments understandably hoping for an eventual port to PC. The original Facebook upload has since been removed, but user dattuu posted the video to Reddit before it was removed, providing nearly three minutes of gameplay.

It begins with the player character running across the Great Wall of China during a battle, arrows darting across the screen as they perform light parkour during traversal. The user interface and artistic direction are reminiscent of recent titles, particularly Assassin's Creed Odyssey, and it takes about a minute before this is confirmed further with combat. A touchscreen prompt appears, instructing you to engage in combat with a level 40 Xiongnu Raider with a health bar. It takes several strikes to defeat the enemy, allowing the player to zipline away from the Great Wall.

The gameplay then transitions into a cutscene with no voice acting but sound effects that accurately correspond to the action seen. Given the presence of subtitles, it is safe to assume that voiced performances are not included in the current build. Despite the player's level, tutorial prompts, and character introductions indicate that this segment occurs early in the game. For a title limited to iOS and Android, the quality is likely to please fans who remain interested, but expectations should be kept in check. Since Diablo Immortal demonstrated that even established franchises can implement egregious forms of monetization on mobile, players should be wary until Assassin's Creed Jade is released.

Assassin's Creed Jade is currently being developed for iOS and Android.
