Kingdom: The Blood Game Gets Gameplay Trailer Based on Netflix Series

According to the gameplay trailer, the upcoming Kingdom: The Blood game based on Netflix's hit series Kingdom looks promising.

The gameplay trailer for the upcoming game Kingdom: The Blood, which is based on the popular Netflix series Kingdom, shows promise. Kingdom: The Blood, which was first announced in July 2022, will have players slashing zombies after zombies in ancient Korea. Action Square, the Korean studio behind 2021's sci-fi top-down shooter ANVIL, is currently working on the game.

Kingdom on Netflix is a Korean period horror drama set in the 16th century. The series' plot revolves around Lee Chang, the Crown Prince of the Joseon Dynasty, who discovers an unnatural plague that resurrects the dead, similar to many other zombie movies. Kingdom, the first Korean original Netflix show, has been a huge success, spawning two seasons and a feature-length spin-off centered on one of the supporting characters.

The gameplay trailer for Kingdom: The Blood includes an in-depth developer commentary that highlights a number of the game's distinctive features. Action Square, the game's creator, wants people to focus on the game's Korean cultural authenticity rather than just the nation's propensity for making excellent horror shows. Action Square promises that the game will adhere to the same principles as Kingdom, which is renowned for its fidelity to Korean heritage in terms of clothing, architecture, and combat.

Game producer Kang Hyungseok says in the trailer, "We are especially focusing on bringing out the beauty of 'hanbok' in the action by making sure even the smallest details, like the fluttering of the tips of the dopo (overcoat), looks natural." In the Korean video game industry, obsessing over a character's appearance is nothing new, and Action Square appears to be using the same strategy in Kingdom: The Blood, albeit with the aim of introducing traditional Korean practices.

The combat scenes in Kingdom: The Blood are based on traditional Korean martial arts, as seen in the gameplay trailer. Like many contemporary games, Kingdom: The Blood uses motion capture to make combat animations look realistic, despite the zombies' occasionally clumsy movements. Hyungseok mentions that players should have a lot of fun overcoming these challenging encounters as he also shows some boss battles.

The release date is one thing that the trailer does not mention. Kingdom: The Blood does not yet have a release date, but the game will be available on both PC and mobile devices, with cross-platform support included from the start. Progression will also be carried across platforms, with the hope that players will be able to get into the action whenever and wherever they want, which is currently lacking in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge following its mobile release via Netflix.

Kingdom: The Blood is currently in development for the PC and mobile platforms.
