When venturing out of bounds in Skyrim, there's more to it than meets the eye

When venturing out of bounds in Skyrim, there's more to it than meets the eye

Even though Skyrim is an older game, some fans are just now realizing how interconnected the Elder Scroll games really are.

Almost everything in Skyrim has already been discovered by this point, but some players are still discovering a few things, like this one who was able to venture off-limits and discover remnants of the game's predecessor. Of course, many people have already seen more than enough of Bethesda's 2011 epic RPG, but there are still people learning about all of the hidden features in The Elder Scrolls 5—some of which have eluded players for years.

To access such secrets, though, there are some things that call for particular strategies. In order to, as it were, peek behind the curtain, there are ways to use Skyrim's out-of-bounds feature, which takes the player outside the actual physical boundaries of a world or particular location. Even though this trick has been around for almost as long as gaming itself, it's interesting to see that some fans are still learning new tricks.

A_Salty_Cellist, a Reddit user, recently posted a screenshot from their Skyrim playthrough in which they can be seen floating in the air. At first glance, at least, it appears that way. It doesn't take long, though, to recognize the tall, faded building off in the distance. Others who commented were able to identify it as the White-Gold Tower from the Imperial City by claiming that it reminded them of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. A_Salty_Cellist continues by claiming that they discovered it by leaving Whiterun's boundaries and traveling south. According to user brightblade13, if the entire map of Tamriel were laid out, Oblivion's capital city would indeed be close to this location, so that "checks out."

The White-Gold tower is one of Oblivion's most recognizable and breathtaking locations for those who haven't played it. It serves as a sort of waypoint for the main hub city of this game and is visible to players from anywhere in Cyrodiil. Even though it requires an out of bounds exploit, it's still cool to see it in Skyrim, especially for those who weren't aware of its existence before.

Additionally, it demonstrates how intricately tied together the lore and setting of the Elder Scrolls video games are. Despite the fact that Skyrim is essentially a continuation of Oblivion, each game in the series may stand alone. The fantasy franchise's success can be attributed in part to the way that each era in this made-up world ties into one another, cramming each game with a ton of traditions and stories.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim - Anniversary Edition is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
