14. Waipio Valley Beach, Big Island, Hawaii
Waipi'o (or Waipio) Valley, which is about one mile wide and six miles deep, is named after the river that runs through it (wai-pio means curved water in Hawaiian). The valley splits into many 'fingers' towards the back, each with its own waterfall. The valley meets the ocean to the north with a lovely black sand beach divide in two by the river. Waipi'o Valley Beach on Hawaii's Big Island's north-east coast is a curved black sand beach surrounded by waterfalls and massive cliff faces. It's a little off the beaten path, but those who make the trip rave about the views and water.
