Marvel’s Avengers Latest Update Leaks Gamer IP Address

A new event and villain sector has been added to Marvel's Avengers in a recent patch. In addition to correcting certain flaws, the update has brought a new one: some gamers are seeing strings of text on their screen that include the system's IP address.

On Twitter, Paul Tassi, a Forbes journalist, confirmed the glitch. When a game fan tweeted, "Crystal Dynamics just doxxed me displaying my IP on broadcast in-game," suspicions were raised. The game's development studio is referred to as "Crystal Dynamics." Tassi uploaded an image showing where players' IP addresses can be seen. In doing so, Tassi carefully filtered their personal details. Many gamers have reported seeing the text while playing the game on the game's subreddit and Twitter.

Crystal Dynamics, the creator of Marvel's Avengers, has openly recognized the bug but has not stated when it would be corrected. A tweet from the official Marvel's Avengers account reads, "We're aware of the issue where a floating string of text appears on the screen and are investigating." The account has now issued a follow-up tweet, advising gamers to "please desist from streaming for the time being if you're having this difficulty." We will provide an update once the problem has been resolved.”

On Twitter, Square Enix released a statement on the bug. "We are currently evaluating a solution to the issue of personal information, including the player's IP address and username, being displayed on screen on PS5 and plan to deliver a hotfix tomorrow at around 8AM PT," according to the tweet.

Despite the fact that Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix postponed the release date for several months, the game was plagued with hundreds of issues at launch, many of which were patched in a follow-up update a few weeks later. The addition of extra heroes and the current-gen console upgrades were also postponed. Square Enix's sales projections for Marvel's Avengers were likewise not met.

The flaw could have been mistakenly added in the most recent Marvel's Avengers content update. The most recent patch, which went live on June 22, added a new Villain Sector dubbed "Beating the Odds" as well as a number of bug fixes. The update also gets the game ready for the Cosmic Threat Event, which begins on June 24.

Both gamers and critics gave Marvel's Avengers a lukewarm reception. Many people complained about the game's repetitive combat and badly executed live-service sequences. It was also notoriously buggy when it originally launched, albeit this is the first time the game's personal information has been disclosed.

The next big Marvel's Avengers expansion will transport players to the secretive Wakanda and include Black Panther as a playable character. In addition to a new hub world, quests, and Ulysses Klaue as the game's next major villain, War for Wakanda will have a new hub world.

Marvel's Avengers is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Google Stadia. This August, The expansion War for Wakanda will be released.
