According to unreleased specifications obtained by Digital Foundry, the PlayStation VR 2 is expected to impress.

In the latest DF Direct Weekly video (below), technology editor Richard Leadbetter appears to refer to PSVR 2 specifications that leaked in May before claiming to have seen even more amazing specs for Sony's forthcoming headset.

“One thing that I believe is encouraging is that Sony is working on PSVR 2 for the PlayStation 5,” he added.

In leaked specs, it looks to be an excellent product. Even better, we've seen some additional specifications that haven't been disclosed yet.“So, maybe, VR will be capable of spreading, there will be more options in the headgear area, and I'm also looking forward to seeing what this new Sony controller is all about,” Leadbetter continued.

PSVR 2 will have a resolution of 40002080 pixels (20002040 each eye), according to various UploadVR sources.

Sony has apparently notified partners that it would also feature gaze tracking capable of foveated rendering, a lens separation adjustment slider, and a vibration motor allowing developers to offer direct haptic input. Earlier this year, PlayStation revealed that it was developing a “next-generation VR system” for the PS5.

According to a February release, the new headgear would offer dramatic jumps in performance and interaction," allowing users to feel "an even greater feeling of presence and become even more engaged in their gaming worlds.

A couple of weeks later, Sony unveiled the new PS5 VR controllers, which have an "orb" shaped design and include adjustable triggers and haptic feedback, similar to the PS5's DualSense controller.

Sony is rumored to be aiming to introduce the successor to PlayStation VR around the holiday season of 2022.
