The judges of Japan's gaming awards also highlight Mario Kart's live home circuit.

Ghost of Tsushima and Monster Hunter Rise shared the top honor at the 2021 Japan Game Awards on Saturday. The Sucker Punch and Capcom titles shared the Grand Award during the digital ceremony, which is run annually by Japan’s Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association and partially voted for by the public. Both games were also chosen as one of 10 titles to win this Award for Excellence. Other category winners were The Last of Us Part 2, Genshin Impact, and Final Fantasy VII Remake.

CESA stated of Ghost of Tsushima in a statement, "With its gorgeous graphics, great plot and diverse activities, and overwhelming quality of game music, this work was appreciated by many people and received the top award." “In the public poll, many people dubbed it ‘the finest game in the series' and ‘a fantastic game,' and it gained overwhelming support and won the Grand Prize,” it said of Monster Hunter Rise.

Kou Shibusawa of Koei was selected as the recipient of the Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry Award, which is awarded to an individual or company that has made a significant contribution to the advancement of the Japanese games industry.

The Game Designers Award was presented to Nintendo's toys-to-life title Mario Kart Live Home Circuit by a panel of nine Japanese designers including Smash Bros. designer Masahiro Sakurai and PlatinumGames' Hideki Kamiya.

Ghost of Tsushima and Monster Hunter Rise were the main winners of the Japan Game Awards 2021, which took place today during the annual Tokyo Game Show. During the ceremony, Sucker Punch Productions and Capcom both received the Grand Award. Nintendo also received the Global Award for Japanese Product for the popular Animal Crossing: New Horizons, as well as the Game Designer's Award for Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, which was created by both Nintendo and Velan Studios.
