Final Fantasy 15 Director Hajima Tabata will Announce New Game in 2022.

Hajima Tabata, the director of Final Fantasy 15, left Square Enix in 2018 and will reveal his new studio's debut JRPG in 2022.

Final Fantasy 15 director Hajima Tabata left Square Enix for greener pastures in 2018. This, unfortunately, resulted in the cancellation of every Final Fantasy 15 DLC save one, therefore ending the project for good. Though Final Fantasy is still running strong for Square Enix, Tabata went on to found his own studio, JP Games, which started in January 2019.

Its debut game announcement was unique and took place in June 2021. The Pegasus Dream Tour themed around the 2020 Summer Paralympics, is the only game from JP Games that is currently known to the public. JP Games, on the other hand, has been hard at work on another project that will be presented in 2022.

Tabata said to 4Gamer that he "looks like" he'll be announcing a new JRPG in 2022. Details on what that is are certainly scarce for now, but JRPGs had a strong 2021. It goes to reason that 2022 will be much bigger, incorporating this project, Atlus' initiatives, and more, regardless of if they are launched or confirmed.

Tabata has a long record in game development, and while it's fair for JP Games to break out into new areas such as The Pegasus Dream Tour, JRPGs are essentially Tabata's bread and butter. Aside from Final Fantasy 15 and its sequels, he worked on Monster Rancher 2, Final Fantasy 7 Before Crisis and Crisis Core, Final Fantasy Type-O, Final Fantasy agito, Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius, and other projects at Square Enix.

It's unclear how Final Fantasy-like JP Games' new JRPG is or how far it goes in search of its own identity, but it's one worth keeping an eye on for fans of Final Fantasy 15 and the franchise in general. In the meantime, there's still plenty of Final Fantasy to look forward to.

Final Fantasy 14 is just as popular as it has always been, if not more so. Fans have flocked to the latest expansion, FF14: Endwalker, making it nearly difficult to play owing to server congestion. It's a problem, but one that stems from its popularity, which isn't always a bad thing. Then, of course, there's Final Fantasy 16 news to look forward to, as the game's next major revelation is scheduled for the spring. Finally, it appears that JRPGs' future is as bright as ever.

Final Fantasy 15 is a role-playing game that can be played on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
