Activision Blizzard's Gets a Reply from Sony after the company acquisition by Microsoft, the company expects games to continue to be released on the PS5, PS4.

Sony Group Corp. said Thursday that if Microsoft Corp. completes its proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard Inc., it expects Microsoft to ensure that Activision Blizzard Inc. games are available on non-Microsoft videogame platforms.

Sony made a statement this morning in response to Microsoft's $68.7 billion acquisition of Activision. In a statement provided to The Wall Street Journal by a Sony spokesperson, the company stated:  "We expect Microsoft to honor contractual obligations and continue to ensure Activision titles are multiplatform," a Sony official said Thursday.

It's a brief and corporate statement that doesn't reveal much, but it does indicate that Sony expects Activision games to be released on Ps5 and PS4 after the deal is completed sometime next year. Whether or not that happens is up to Microsoft, as the Call of Duty creator begins reporting to Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer. Any titles released before that shutdown should still be available for free on the PS5, PS4, and Xbox One – at the moment, this appears to include the rumored Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 from Infinity Ward.

Microsoft has previously indicated that when it takes control of a company, it would honor active contracts and deals. It didn't stop Deathloop from being released as a PS5 console exclusive last year, and it hasn't stopped Bethesda from releasing Ghostwire: Tokyo. We don't know how long Sony has been on the Call of Duty marketing deal, so this is one of those contracts that could be contested in the coming years.
