Many Xbox 360 Halo online services are coming to an end today |
Some online services for classic Halo games will be shut down today. The Xbox 360 games directly affected include Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo 4, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo Spartan Assault, and Halo Wars.
Although the games will still be playable, they will only support limited online services (as shown in the chart below), with features such as matchmaking, file sharing, and challenges disabled.
More information on the features that will continue to be supported for each game can be found on Halo Waypoint, as well as a FAQ regarding the sunsetting process, which verifies that backward-compatible versions of the titles will be affected.

The studio has stated, "Every cycle spent maintaining and supporting Xbox 360 legacy services is time and attention not spent on the future of Halo."
"Owners of these games will be allowed to play them indefinitely, but certain online features and experiences, such as online matchmaking, will be limited or removed."
Halo Infinite was previously intended to be launched in November 2020 as an Xbox Series X/S launch title, but it was delayed until December.
343 Industries is currently working on various features that were sacrificed in order to release Halo Infinite last year, such as campaign co-op and Forge mode, but no release dates have been set.
