SpaceX has posted stunning footage of a Falcon 9 rocket breaking apart at 3,700 mph.

Elon Musk's SpaceX has published a video of the Falcon 9, the company's workhorse rocket, touching speeds of over 3,700 mph.

The COSMO-SkyMed Earth observation satellite was recently launched by SpaceX, and amazing footage of the rocket separating during the flight has been recorded and shared with the public.

The Falcon 9, SpaceX's workhorse launch vehicle, as seen in the video above, was uploaded to the company's YouTube channel. In the clip, the Falcon 9's first-stage booster is shown pushing the rocket's payload further into Earth's atmosphere at an incredible speed of more than 3,700 miles per hour. When the first stage burns out, it separates from the rocket and comes back to Earth.

During its descent, the rocket orients itself to land safely so that it can be reused, saving millions of dollars in manufacturing costs. Following the separation of the first stage, the second stage fires its Merlin boosters to continue the voyage. Notably, the video shows the payload burning, which results in the rocket's "shell" separating, allowing the payload to be thrown off at the appropriate position.
